She has written over 100 books and is the creator of characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. I have so many positive memories of reading her books as a child (and even rereading them as an adult) and I’m so excited to read a book set for young adults and one of a more adult and sensitive subject too. Baby Love is the 100th book from Jacqueline Wilson, and perhaps this iconic children’s novelist toughest read of all. Although this is a work of historical fiction, it touches on issues of consent, women's rights, adoption and family relationships that are still very relevant today.

She makes bonds that get her through what will be the hardest time of her short life, but ultimately make her strong, resilient and determined to fight for what she feels is right. One of Britain's bestselling children's authors, with over 25 million books sold, Wilson is a former Children's Laureate and creator of Tracy Beaker.I thought that they wouldn't be the same now that I am in my late 20's and maybe my good memories of them should be left untouched. This stands alone as a great fiction book and should not be categories only as a young adult book in my opinion .

Anche questo libro non fa eccezione: si tratta della storia di una gravidanza di una ragazzina di 14 anni, in seguito a violenza, che viene quindi portata in una struttura per ragazze madri. Maybe it’s because it’s in England (or maybe because it’s a Jacqueline Wilson novel), she isn’t sentenced to a life of gloom in this home for expectant mothers, it’s certainly not the best but it isn’t the tales from those horrible Irish nuns convent.Sent away to save them from shame, Laura meets girls just like herself, whose families have given up on them - and they become a family for each other at the most difficult time in all their lives. Jacqueline Wilson wrote her first novel when she was nine years old, and she has been writing ever since. Jacqueline Wilson undoubtedly has a talent for writing from the point of view of children/teenagers. Jacqueline is also a great reader, and has amassed over 20,000 books, along with her famous collection of silver rings. So how would I sun this up … honest , gut wrenching yet sweet at times , emotional and heartbreaking!

The Illustrated Mum won the Guardian Children’s Fiction Award, the 1999 Children’s Book of the Year at the British Book Awards and was also shortlisted for the 1999 Whitbread Children’s Book Award. Ultimately, Jacqueline Wilson is and always has been a gem and smashing through this was just what I needed.I was surprised when I so easily slipped back into the world of Jacqueline Wilson at the ripe old age of 29. One fantastic addition since the days when I was a YA were some notes from the author detailing how the ‘adult’ themes in the book and the access to help available . Baby Love is not suitable for Wilson’s more typical younger audience – it is an original piece whose characters will stick with you for a long time. Moreover, the story is followed by two notes from Adoption UK and the Schools Consent Project for anyone who may have been affected by the tale. Ross Welford introduces Time Travelling with a Tortoise, the sequel to Time Travelling with a Hamster, and a whole new time travel adventure!
