I was given a couple of Bert Weedon Guitar Guides, which I gave to my Dad, they’re probably in the loft….

It was back in the 80s, when I was on holiday with my family at a slightly up-market holiday camp in Suffolk that I got to see Bert Weedon. Weedon placed a lot of emphasis on control of tone, and wanted to make the guitar the star of his music. However, I do know of a player who died 2 or 3 years ago who was the absolute undisputed master of the particular style and technique you refer to. Its purpose is to provide a taster, which will enable the learner to progress to a basic standard and then move on. Tell us why you liked or disliked the book; using examples and comparisons is a great way to do this. Well, in response to Nick's B B King vibrato challenge, I haven't played that particular style since about 1969 when, armed with a Hofner Club 60 (yes, the very same make that Weedon endorsed) complete with a "BLUESKING" logo that I stuck on the raised pickguard after seeing something similar in a photo of B B (I was just a young kid after all), a couple of friends and I would jam on B B King favourites such as "Rock Me Baby" on a Saturday afternoon before heading off to the school disco.

Kids of today may be different of course, but back in 1963, 9 year olds wanted to learn Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Duane Eddy and Hank Marvin riffs, not dreck like Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes and Cockles And Mussels. Payment can be made in any currency via Paypal, or any credit/debit card, including American Express, using Worldpay. This has to make it the most influential book in rock and roll history and puts dear old Bert up there with Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley in terms of impact on the music we listen to today. here is the (short) list of players who appear to be using an orthodox grip: Pat Metheney, Robert Fripp, Eric Clapton (although I've never paid a lot of attention to EC, I'm sure I've seen him playing thumb over), Andy Summers (not conclusive), and as you would expect, Andres Segovia.series, by renowned educationalist Paul Harris, is designed to help you overcome all your sight-reading problems, especially in the context of graded exams. We are approaching the anniversary of his death (April 20, 2012) and I have a horrible feeling that we didn’t make enough of Weedon while we still had him. Many thanks to Stratmangler for posting the B B King video - a supremely moving performance and many good close ups of his LH thumb in action, both on the neck (in particular when executing string-pulls, but also most of the rest of the time except when using vibrato) and off (when he moves his entire hand except for his fretting fingers away from the neck to execute vibrato). In November 1976, Weedon made number one, for one week, in the UK Albums Chart with 22 Golden Guitar Greats, a compilation album of guitar solos released on the Warwick label. Nursery Rhyme Time presents 31 of the best-loved nursery rhymes, skilfully arranged for the young pianist by Fanny Waterman.Leigh Wieland-Boys… I worked in the same building as his agent (Duke Street, London in the 70s) and sometimes covered their reception as a favour.
