Amber Tamosaitis’s translation for Seven Seas captures just the right tone of voice for Nakamura and his tumultuous feelings (and Japanese honorifics are used throughout). Nakamura is a very shy, and very gay, high school boy who loves octopuses and who would love to finally find the courage to speak to his crush, fellow classmate Hirose. Nakamura loves octopi as a whole, praising their intelligence and even their cuteness, even his favorite food is takoyaki and having a pet octopus at home. This isn't one of those gay mangas where one man is super effeminate and submissive whilst the other one is dominating and rapey either.

The style is very much classic 90s shoujo romcom manga (think: Marmalade Boy, Kodomo no Omocha, etc), straight down to the cover design (that color combination! I am fine with reading about morally questionable topics as long as they are treated with sensitivity; there are shown to be consequences for the negative actions (and the author shows awareness that it was messed up); and/or the execution is thought-provoking or interesting. Me gusto la trama, es de esas historias que son ligeritas y divertidas por todas las situaciones cómicas que se van desarrollando. This manga does not have that problem because the creator did not just want to make some shitty fap-material, they wanted to make an actually readable piece of art. Maybe you were never like Nakamura -- a closeted, socially inept gay teenager who finds it easier to talk to his pet octopus than to other people -- but it's easy to sympathize with him, seeing him obsessed with a cute boy in his class. Nakamura and Hirose have very few interactions here and the ones that do happen are average at best.

The characters interactions seem natural and it's just nice to see something like this after so long. At the end of the chapter, it's revealed that the gym clothes actually belonged to another, less attractive student at the school. Changes mid-story for the first few chapters, then the initial narrative is dropped altogether in the last part of the book. The art style does actually shift subtly through the volume (something I would have never noticed if not for the author’s note) due to the unusually long amount of time the volume was serialized over, but the basic designs stay consistent and it’s a fun change compared to the other art styles you’re most likely to see in a BL manga from 2017.Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. I have read this manga 8 times (and 9 times if you include this last time) from the beginning whenever a new chapter was released.
