Would you wonder why Gandalf’s beard is a little darker than before, why Hobbiton seems much more vibrant? It’s not like Fellowship suddenly looked like The Matrix; the green tone tended to be pretty light, and the movie already used a stylized palette. Disc three offers “The Appendices Part One — From Book to Vision” and covers the journey of FOTR from page to screen.

Certain items can take longer to source than the estimated week, particularly during busy trading periods and may take longer to arrive at our warehouse. Suffice it to say, with so much ground to cover, there simply isn't a more efficient and thorough way to cover the full 15-disc Extended Edition release. Dialogue is given outstanding presence across the movies, never dominated by the other elements of what could have been an overwhelming, bombast-laden offering, and accurately pervading the central channel, occasionally dispersing to the surrounds for more subtle nuances like Gollum's cries for his 'Precious' at the start of Fellowship. Here, it appears that none of that object-specific detailing has been done, with a blanket filter applied to the entire movie. The New Zealand born filmmaker's previous works had been more wild and imaginative cult offerings, like 'Braindead' (known in the States as 'Dead Alive') and ' The Frighteners,' not big budget special effects laden blockbusters. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy - The Extended Edition includes a new transfer of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring , which was remastered from the original 2k digital files, and it all comes in multi-disc elite packaging inside a premium rigid slipcase.

Jackson owns his own post-production facility, Park Road Post in Wellington, New Zealand, so he has total control over the way this stuff looks. Follow Bilbo Baggins, who – along with the Wizard Gandalf and 13 Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield – is swept into an epic and treacherous quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. All three of the films included in this extended edition boxset are amazing, and they get even better as they go along. For all my niggles about them not being presented on actual Blu-ray discs, or my worries about further embellishment, there is no way that this extras package could receive anything less than a 10/10.
