A good book for learning how to make your own patterns, design your own clothes, just the way you like. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. It includes instructions for using stretch and jersey fabrics as well as the more traditional woven fabrics. I bought this new edition for my daughter and will be borrowing it back as it has some very useful additional chapters to my original. I do think another book which details how to sew clothes together and various techniques would be a good companion.

But what is the most amazing is that it teaches you how to draft different blocks with different ease in them which is great especially when you are drafting different styles. I draw lines down my side and take measurements seperately for back and front and use those to draft the front and back seperately as opposed to using the full bust, waist and hip measurements as in the book. Our donations to The Rainbow Centre have helped provide an education and a safe haven to hundreds of children who live in appalling conditions. There is also a lot of information on how to draft a variety of different designs for tops, dresses, sleeves, pants, skirts etc.It is ideal for someone with some experience of pattern cutting or someone who is very familiar with using sewing patterns but it's also a great book for a beginner to use in collaboration to learning how to draft sewing patterns. Man bekommt gute Infos über die einzelnen Bereiche, auf was zu achten ist, weshalb man dies und das macht usw. This first section is also where we are introduced to some tools and pattern making rules about smoothing lines, adding seam allowances and labelling pieces. New for this edition is the inclusion of colour to help students recognize the different sections of the book and to enhance the garment illustrations? Metric Pattern Cutting for Women's Wear was first published in 1975 to provide a straightforward introductory book for students beginning courses in flat pattern cutting.

They snip a 'U' shape in the paper meaning it doesn't rip as easily as notching by hand creating 'V' shapes. They're such a time and money saver in the long run, especially if you're about to make something in a very expensive fabric or you think you'll make the pattern again and again.Over the years I've noticed that the date is often missed off each pattern piece (I've done it myself too) and although at the time it may not seem important, you'll see the importance when you've tweaked the pattern 10 times and you don't know which pattern piece was the latest version. The last bit is CAD led design which is useful if you’re heading into the industry but if not then you don’t need this section! Colour illustrations also offer a new dimension to the updated material on computer–aided design and the CAD chapter now provides students with a clear guide to the technology. However, the great expansion of casual wear, cut in jersey or stretch fabrics, has led to the growth of ′flat cutting′ with no darting to create the shape and this edition devotes a whole section to this type of cutting.
