Livin' Loud comes after a string of impressive exhibitions at Gallery 30 South, Shepard Fairey's Subliminal Projects Gallery and Chuck's alma mater, Adelphi University. A set of graphic journals (or, in Chuck D’s parlance, naphic grovels), Stewdio is his account of life, mostly in the U. His inventive, Amiri Baraka–esque language and accompanying art is also occasionally used as a tool for introspection, providing unparalleled insight into one of the most important cultural figures of our time.

About the Author: Chuck D, born Carlton Douglas Ridenhour, is an American rapper, activist and founding member of the iconic hip-hop group, Public Enemy. With audacious style, Chuck D—activist and cofounder of Public Enemy—chronicles his personal life and American history as it unfolded during 2020 and early 2022 in this set of three thought-provoking illustrated diary volumes .

Summer of Hamn is the bound journal Chuck D carried with him in the summer of 2022-a summer marked by a particularly high rate of gun death. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. With a foreword by Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Chuck D’s art debut Livin’ Loud is a visual experience of over 250 artworks, each piece reflective of the man behind the music.A multi-platinum recording artist, recipient of a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an educator, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, activist and celebrated visual artist, co-founder of the supergroup Prophets of Rage, Chuck D’s credentials are arguably the most impressive in hip-hop. The illustrations are bleak – and seem devoid of any hope (the acronym in the title, Hamn, stands for Hollowpointlessness Aiding Mass Nihilism). In Livin’ Loud, Public Enemy founder, hip-hop pioneer and revolutionary activist, Chuck D, presents a body of art, each piece reflective of the man behind the music, alongside a biographical commentary tracing his musical and artistic trajectory. What made the connection between Temple and Chuck D possible was Akashic’s track record of publishing diverse subjects (the house mission is the “Reverse-Gentrification of the Literary World”), and Temple’s shared connection with him through music.

Thirty-six years on from Public Enemy’s debut album, the rap pioneers’ frontman Chuck D might appear increasingly to be in legacy mode; winding-down mode, almost. My deepest thanks to Genesis for giving me a place to be able to display all of this through my artwork. Their subsequent catalogue of socially raging songs made them one of the most influential bands of the modern era, and culminated in the prestigious Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.Chuck DIn Livin’ Loud, Public Enemy founder, hip-hop pioneer and revolutionary activist, Chuck D, presents a body of art, each piece reflective of the man behind the music, alongside a biographical commentary tracing his musical and artistic trajectory. No song may be more reflective of 1980s America than Public Enemy’s “Fight the Power;” no document may come to capture our COVID era like Chuck D’s StewDio .
