Another distracting element was what seemed like constant interruptions as the characters' wardrobes were described. Still, it’s a Peter James Roy Grace novel, and so even though it’s my least favourite so far, it’s still pretty good. A Twist of the Knife is Peter James’s gripping first full-length collection of short stories, including the novellas The Perfect Murder, Footloose written with Val McDermid and In The Nick of Time written with Ian Rankin. Frankly, I’m looking forward to meeting Roy Grace on screen, because he doesn’t come across vividly on the page.

NOT DEAD YET is the eighth in the series of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace novels by Peter James and follows on from the events of DEAD MAN'S GRIP for Roy Grace and his team. The Grace stories almost always go to the top of the bestseller lists, not least because they are supremely well-told. James utilises his knowledge of the movie industry (he used to be a Hollywood producer) to create convincingly gross and egotistical characters like Larry Brooker.

Soon Grace comes to the frightening realization that he may have underestimated just how dangerous this lady is. James explains in his Acknowledgements that "Retired Detective Chief Superintendent David Gaylor of Sussex CID" is his inspiration for protagonist Roy Grace.

Kevin Spinella, chief crime reporter for the Brighton Argus, demands details on the latest threats to Gaia even though he’s on his honeymoon in the Maldives. Supported by his wife, Kellie, he bravely makes a statement to the murder enquiry team headed by Detective Superintendent Roy Grace. For another, the job she turns out to have been hired for—leading an investigation her new boss doesn’t feel he can entrust to his own force—makes her queasy. Detective Roy Grace heads up the team, and tries to keep Gaia safe while tracking down suspects—is it the guy who thinks his actress girlfriend should have gotten Gaia's role in the film? The whole city of Brighton awaits Gaia’s arrival, including her dangerously obsessive Number One fan looking for revenge and an anxious Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, charged with protecting Gaia. The story certainly kept its pace up and I have to be honest as the story continued I got the feeling that this was a real ‘who dunnit’ kind of story. It includes dramatic scenes that will have anyone who has visited the Royal Pavilion on the edge of their seats, and features several areas of the building that will only be familiar to those who work here. Another of the series strengths is with the great supporting cast, most notably partner and friend Glenn Branson. Defying instruction not to contact the police, Kipp reluctantly does just that, and Detective Superintendent Roy Grace is brought into investigate.

There were an over abundance of crazies but I found that, if not entirely believable, close to it since they were all massing around a Hollywood star, for whatever reason celebrity seems to brings out the loonies as well as the more realistic admirers.

Ruthless gangs, operating with military precision, have discovered a new black market flourishing in the shadows – an unthinkable source of wealth even more profitable than drugs. Enter Roy Grace and his sidekick, the dapper Glenn Branson, who already have their hands full with a torso discovered in the sewers of a chicken farm: foul play indeed. These events collide to become a nightmare for Detective Superintendent Roy Grace when an attempt on the life of Gaia is made days before she leaves her Bel Air home to fly to Brighton (her home town) so he has to juggle the hunt for a potential obsessed stalker in his city with an ongoing murder investigation with very few leads and the continuing pregnancy complications of his girlfriend, Cleo. She has just driven into the underground car park beneath the block of flats where they live in Brighton. For the City of Brighton and Hove, the publicity value of a major Hollywood movie being filmed on location, about the city's greatest love story -between King George IVTH and Maria Fitzherbert - is incalculable.

The only one minor niggle I had was that I never got to find out the conclusion of the story regarding Norman and Bella. An unidentifiable torso has turned up on Keith Winter’s chicken farm, and vicious gangster Amis Smallbone, whom Grace put away 12 years ago, has been released from prison bent on vengeance. for a stand-alone about a police detective, a developmentally delayed boy, and a package everyone in North Dakota wants to grab. When Sir Isaac Quoit, chairman of the Atomic Energy Authority, disappears without trace, MI5 are alerted to the.Soon Grace and his team will find themselves in a race against time to save the life of a young street kid, while a desperate mother will stop at nothing to save her daughter’s life.
